In collaboration with the Indian Musicological Society; Nad Ninad makes available to lovers of Hindustani music some of the archival recordings of the great masters of the past. Son and disciple of the Ajrada maestro Shammu Khan, Habeebuddin Khansaheb also trained with stalwarts from various other schools: Natthu Khan of Delhi gharana, Munir Khan of Laliyana gharana, and Ali Raza Khan of Lucknow gharana. With equal command over solo repertoire and techniques of accompaniment, Khansaheb was regarded as one of the best exponents of Ajrada gharana. He was especially known for having an exceptional command over the bayan (the larger of the drum pair constituting the tabla) and a vast repertoire that brought immense variety in his solo performance.Sudhir Mainkar, an eminent scholar-musician and respected guru in the world of tabla, will conduct this session. 06.30 PM.
