Shiv Kumar Sharma

Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma was born on 13th January 1938 in Kashmir. He recieved is training of Santoor in the Benaras Gharana. He also learnt Hindustani Classical vocal and to play the tabla. He started his training in Santoor at the age of 14 under his father.

He has been bestowed with several prestigious awards such as the Padmashri in 1986.

With his great efforts of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma has made it possible for the Santoor to render ragas as per the "khayal" form of rendition.

He gave his first public performance in Mumbai in the year 1955. His first album was recoreded in 1960. In 1967 he joined hands with Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, the flute maestro and slide guitarist Pandit Brij Bhushan Kabra and together they composed a album called "Call of the Valley" which is till now considered as one of the Greatest works in Hindustani Classical Music.

Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma with deep knowledge of his art has progressively evolved his intrument and earned international acclaim for the same.
