Rajan Mishra , the elder of the two brothers was born in 1951 and Sajan Mishra in 1959 in the family of great maestros. Pt. Ganeshji Mishra was their great grandfather and Pt. Surshahi Mishra was their grandfather. They recieved their initial musical training from their father Pandit Hanuman Prasad Mishra who was a well-known vocalist himself.They also recieved training from their uncle Pt. Gopal Prasad Mishra who was a ver famous Sarangi player and from Gayanacharya, late Pt. Bade Ramdasji of Banaras.

Significant awards bestowed on them include "Kumar Gandharva Samman" for 1994-95, by the Madhya Pradesh Government, the title of Sangeet Nayak from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh and the Sangeet Shiromani from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad in 1983. Sajan Mishra was also honoured with Sangeet Ratna from Allahabad and Sangeet Bhushan of Banaras.

They enjoy the position of top ranking broadcasters on the All India Radio and Doordarshan which conferred on them the title of Pandit.They have performed worldwide - in European and American countries.

Rajan Mishra is the conductor and lead vocalistand excels at the high whereas Sajan at the low notes. They sing with a common purpose (Samaan bhavgayan) which is very popular.Their immense skill and imagination have raised their status of jugalbandi music to heights rarely ever seen or heard before.
