Hari Prasad Chaurasia was born on July 1,1938 at Allahabad in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is interesting to know that this renowned flautist who acquired his first flute by stealing came from a family of wrestlers.

Before starting his training under the highly revered Annapoornadevi, the daughter of the learned Ustad Allaudin Khan, he had recieved some training from Pandit Bholanath and Pandit Rajaram.

Today this great maestro is all set to start "Vrindavan" in Mumbai- which will be "a gurukul" imparting music on the lines of "guru-shishya parampara"(the teacher-student tradition).

The maestro has also contributed by creating two ragas - "Haripriya" and "Mangaldhwani". He has been honoured with prestigious awards such as Padmabhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Hari Prasad Chaurasia"s dedication and perseverance toward his art has made him rise to the levels where he has earned worldwide acclaim for exploring wider horizons within the sphere of Indian Classical Music.
