BALAKRISHNA IYER
Balakrishna Iyer is a recognized name amongst the top Tabla players of India today. He was born to musically talented parents on 13th March, 1956 in Bhopal.

His Father Late Shri. Gopalkrishna Iyer was himself a good Mridangam player while his mother is a fine Violinist. This background had a visible impact and right from his very young age, he was encouraged and groomed in the musical tradition of his family to become a talented Tabla maestro.

After receiving his initial training in music from his parents, he started learning Tabla from Pt.Randhir Kumar Ganguly of Bhopal. Then for higher studies and on the advice of his guru, he came down to Bombay, the cultural city of India and became a disciple of Late Pt.Taranath Rao, a legend in Hindustani Classical Music. At present he is under the tutelage of Pt.Arvind Mulgaonkar of Bombay, a senior disciple of Ustad Amir Hussain Khan Saheb of Farrukhabad Gharana.

His very first appearance before the public was when he was hardly 15 years old. "Sangeet Kala Sangam" of Bhopal recognised his talents and brought him on the stage in the year 1972 in Bhopall. A regular broadcaster / telecaster, he has performed with many top ranking musicians from Indian Classical Music scene all over the globe. He also has numerous long-playing records/cassetes/C.D.s" to his credit.
