Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty is regarded as an authentic & leading exponent of the Patiala Gharana. He was born in 1953. Initially his father Sri Ajit Chakraborty developed him in North Indian Vocal music. After that he continued under Shri Kanai Das Bairagi followed by Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh.

In 1971, Ajoy da commenced his musical tutelage under Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, son of great Patiala Maestro, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. He did his masters degree in music from Rabindra Bharati University.

Today he is director of "Srutinandan" a music school based in Calcutta, India and also a senior teacher of the Patiala Gharana style in the Sangeet Research Academy in Calcutta.

Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty is considered a genius in Rabindra Sangeet & devotional music and by creating a niche in the fields of Khayal and Thumri can be said to be one of the most talented vocalists of his generation.

Ajoy da, a versatile genius being a teacher, choreographer and a music director was awarded the Kumar Gandharva award & also the National Award.
