Agsari Bai was born in 1918 in the princely state of Orchha. She belonged to a family of a court singer and her mother"s name was Nazeer Begum. She started learning music from the tender age of five. She was greatly inspired by Siddheshwari Devi. Her Guru was Ustad Zaheer Khan of Gohad.

She is bestowed with various awards which includes the Padma Bhushan, Padmashree, the Tansen Puraskar and Shikhar Samman.

Agsari Bai was said to be the only female exponent of Dhrupad form of Classical music in her time. Today she lives alone in Tikamgarh.

For music she travelled various places in India and abroad. She is said to have a voice with perfect balanceof aesthetic and theoritical understanding.
