Enthralling duet - Violinist duo had variety and melody

Naveen Kumar and Poorna Pragnya performed a violin duet at the monthly musical programme conducted by the Association for Carnatic Music (ACM) at Mahati mini hall in Tirupati last week. ACM devotes the entire November month to budding and upcoming artistes.

The concert began with a Varnam in raga Bhairavi, followed byVatapi Ganapatimof Mutthuswami Deekshitar in Hamsadhwani. Mari vere gati in Ananda Bhairavi, a composition of Syama Sastry was followed by Mari Veredikkevarayya of Patnam Subrahmania Iyer in Latangi ragam. The main piece of the concert was Enduku Peddala of Thyagaraja in Sankarabharanam. The concert concluded with an Annamacharya Kirtan in Kuranjiand a Tillana of Lalgudi G. Jayaraman in the raga Behag.

Naveen is a former student of Sri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance, Tirupati and a disciple of Poorna Vaidyanathan, while Poorna Pragnya is a student of Vittal Ram Murthy of Chennai. S. Pannaga accompanied them on Mridangam and Harihara Subrahmanyam on Ghatam.
