Raga Bahar is from Kafi thaat. It has komal gandhar and both nishads. The raga has shuddha nishad in aroha and komal nishad in avroha. Rishabh is varjit in the aroha, while dhaivat is varjit in the avroha. Its jati is shadav-shadav. The Vadi (main note) is Ma Samvadi (second important note) is Sa. The time of performance is the middle of the night. This raga can be performed at any time, during Basant ritu. The phrase ni (komal), dha, ni, sa is used, while going to the Taar saptak which is similar to Miyan Malhar, but one waits on dhaivat in Bahar and it is taken in the form of ma, ni (komal), dha, ni sa. In Miyan Malhar the phrase is pa, ni (komal), dha, ni sa and one waits on shuddha nishad. Gandhar is vakra in avroha and taken as ga (komal), ma, re, sa. The aroha and avroha is as follows:
