USTAD Ustad Allahrakha Khan was born on the 29th of April in the year 1919and belonged to a family of peasants in Lahore.

When he was eleven he realised his love for music and specially the tabla with which he got associated at a local theatre company. He left home to fulfill his dreams, to meet the great tabla player of the Punjab Gharana of music - the legendary Ustad Kader Bux.

He was honoured with several prestigious awards which included the Padmashri in 1960, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Indo American and the Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar.

Ustad Allah Rakha Khan was often referred to as Abbaji by his students.
He even directed music for several films under the name A.R.Qureshi.

Alas , the great maestro passed away on the 2nd of February 2000 at his residence in Mumbai. He has become a legend and is considered to be one of the most superior tabla maestros in the world.
