Ustad Shujaat Khan belongs to an illustrious family of sitar players. He has studied with his father, Ustad Vilayat Khan, one of the most famous figures of Indian classical music. His tradition, the Imdadkhani Gharana, is a branch of the binkars of Gwalior.
His great grandfather, Ustad Imdad Khan, the founder of the gharana, established the reputation of his khyal school through the extreme delicacy in the expression of notes, a feature too of Ustad Shujaat Khan. Vilayat Khan"s personality as well as his brother"s, Ustad Imrat Khan, have created a very distinctive style which became very known as an ambassador of classical Hindustani music throughout the world.
A child prodigy, Ustad Shujaat Khan has started learning music from the age of three, a very tender age indeed, even for a family of musicians. A very small sitar had been made especially for him.
Having started his public career from the age of six, Ustad Shujaat Khan has performed in numerous concerts in India and abroad.

Pandit Shailesh Bhagwat |
|
| One of the most well known disciples of Late Bharat-Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb, Pandit SHAILESH BHAGWAT"s rendering of Shehnai is marked with an emotional presentation - which has a systematic blending and an improvisation of Raga in the "Gayaki-Ang". His phenomenal breath-control is superb and notable. |
