PRABHA ATRE
Born in 1932, Prabha Atre hailed from a middle class family of Pune. Her parents were academicians with a strong love for music.
At the age of fourteen she started learning from Pandit Sureshbabu Mane. But after the sad demise of Pandit Mane she came under the tutelege of his sister Hirabai Badodekar, a established performing artist.
Prabha Atre in due course became a leading performer in all India Radio and also did her doctorate from the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. She even worked at Department of Music at S.N.D.T University.
She was honoured with the Padmashree in 1990 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1991. Though she gives all the credit for her music to her two gurus, she also acknowledges that she has been influenced by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Amir Khan.
Apart from contributing as a performer and teacher she has also authored many books on music. "Swarameyee", "Swaranginee" and "Swaralee" are some of her noted books. She even wrote a book of Marathi poems called "Antaswar".
In short Prabha atre is a celebrated name within Indian Classical music circles today.

Pandit Shailesh Bhagwat |
|
| One of the most well known disciples of Late Bharat-Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb, Pandit SHAILESH BHAGWAT"s rendering of Shehnai is marked with an emotional presentation - which has a systematic blending and an improvisation of Raga in the "Gayaki-Ang". His phenomenal breath-control is superb and notable. |
