Dr. Hangal, one of the foremost exponents of the Kirana Gharana in our times has enriched our tradition by her unique style and talents. Gifted with a resonant and flexible voice, Gangubai has a repertoire which is outstandingly rich, delicate and diversified.
She has won the national and state Sangeet Natak Academy Awards. In the year 1971, she won the coveted national award, "Padma Bhushan". This was followed by the "Tansen Award" in the year 1984.
