c.1850-1922 Son of Haddu Khan of Gwalior. Regarded as the greatest exponent of the Gwalior style of his time, he infuenced a whole generation of great khayal singers, regardless of gharana affiliations. Among them were Bhaskarbua Bakhle, Abdul Karim Khan and Manji Khan. He served the royal court of Kurundwad, but was noted for his eccentricities. A remarkable anecdote is recounted by Amiyanath Sanyal in his essay on Maujuddin Khan. There is a magnificent description of how he sings Todi at Maujuddin"s request, starting with a halak tan which makes the room tremble.
Fortunately for us a number of songs of Rahamat Khansahab were recorded on 78 rpm disc, and these still bear testimony to the strength and `taasir" of his gayaki.

Pandit Shailesh Bhagwat |
|
| One of the most well known disciples of Late Bharat-Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb, Pandit SHAILESH BHAGWAT"s rendering of Shehnai is marked with an emotional presentation - which has a systematic blending and an improvisation of Raga in the "Gayaki-Ang". His phenomenal breath-control is superb and notable. |
